Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Francisco Janeiro and Mary Louise (Guilmette) Janeiro. He had been a longtime resident of Swansea.
Tony worked for the Maintenance & Grounds Department at Bristol Community College for many years before his retirement. A Veteran of the United States Army, he served during the Korean War as Private First Class. Many knew him as “Tony Gelanto” when he was a local boxer.
He is survived by two sisters, Helen Marie Askew of Fall River and Margaret Tessier of Newport. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Florence, Rosaline, William, Ida, Alice, Dorothy and Jeannette.
Due to current restrictions on public gatherings, his funeral will be private. Contributions in his honor may be made to the Herren Project, 1061 Fish Road, Tiverton, RI 02878.
