Ash (Chloe) Valiente

October 23, 1997November 21, 2019

Ash (Chloe Isabella) Valiente of Somerset, MA, age 22, passed away unexpectedly due to complications from heart disease on Thursday, November 21, 2019. Born in Providence, RI they were a child of Cesar and Jennifer (Bates) Valiente.

A graduate of Somerset Berkley Regional High School, Class of 2016, they attended Bridgewater State University, majoring in Communications.

Passionate about music, Ash was a member of the Show Choir throughout their four years of high school and was active in the music department. In addition, they participated in Color Guard, and were a member of the Debate Team, the Robotics Team, and the Gay Straight Alliance.

As a lifelong member of the Girls Scouts of South Eastern New England, they volunteered to help local Daisy and Brownie troops, were nominated to be a delegate at the National Convention for Girl Scouts in Utah in 2015, and were a Camp Counselor at Camp Hoffman in South Kingston, RI and Rocky Farm in Newport for many summers where they made lifelong friends.

Truly invested in campus life at Bridgewater, they were a program assistant for the Lavender Living Learning Community and President of the Bridgewater University Chapter of the Phi Pi Delta Fraternity. They were active in the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, the Pride Center, the Jewish-Muslim Coalition, and the Residence Hall Association.

Ash was a loyal and caring friend, always there with a hug for those who needed it. They were never one to shy away from who they were or what they thought was right. Ash was a fierce advocate and protector for anyone who needed it and remained resilient in the face of any adversity they faced.

In addition to their mother and father they are survived by their sister, Sophia Valiente; their brother, Zach Valiente; maternal grandmother, Jacquelyn Bates; paternal grandparents, Dr. Crispin and Cristina Valiente; aunts; uncles; cousins; friends; their dogs, Tucker and Oberon and guinea pigs, Gilbert and Sid. They were the granddaughter of the late Richard N. Bates.

It was my first year at sleep away camp and Ant was there to comfort me when I felt homesick. Then at the end of the week they told me how much better I got through the week and they cant wait to see me as a CIT. I just completed my first year of CIT and wish that they could have been there to see it. I miss them so much

My heart goes out to Ash's family and friends. They taught my daughter how to tie her first knot in Girl Scouts, followed by how to tie her shoes. I'm thankful for their positive influence in my daughter's life.

Ash, thank you for being such a good friend to many. I was lucky enough to have the pleasure of having Greek Advisory Board with you every week, and you always brought something positive to the table. I'm honored to have known you.

I have been going to Camp Hoffman for six years. Ash, better known as Ant, was one of the councilors at camp. They're constant brightness and kindness made the entire experience and I was lucky enough to grow close to them. Many times they were the ones to cheer up others and always see the bright side of any situation. I am so thankful to be able to know them and send my deepest condolences.

To the Valiente family,

I am so very sorry to hear about the passing of Ash. I met Ash last year at BSU relay for life. I remember Ash walking over to me with their beautiful smile and gave me this heartwarming hug. Ash was also a RA in Pope, a member of the President sorority/fraternity group with my daughter Keyana and went on a Leadership trip together. She couldn’t stop talking about how sweet and caring Ash was to her and everyone at BSU.

We will truly miss their beautiful smile, but will never forget Ash. Sending prayers and hugs to you and your family. May Ash rest in heavenly peace.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Fran Adarkwah and Family

To the Valiente family - I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Chloe. I was fortunate to be her Girl Scout leader for 10 years (Troop Beverly Hills ;)). She was thoughtful, sincere and always took care of the younger girls. I see that all of her great qualities continued in her teen and college years. Chloe, I pray that you keep shining your bright light on those who were lucky to have known you. May you rest in the sweetest peace!

Chloe will be missed by all of us who knew and loved her. She was always looking out for everyone else, sharing herself and being open to their thoughts too. She was a leader in her own right. She may be gone but never will be forgotten. When I think of her I can't help but see that smiling face she shared with all of us. Chloe will always be in my thoughts. God may need another Angel and he will have a fantastic one with our Chloe.
