Barbara Gene (Cottrell) Keating, 63, of Rehoboth, MA passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, July 2, 2026. Barbara’s passing was sudden and unimaginable, leaving her family and friends heartbroken.
Born in Buffalo, New York, on March 13, 1963, Barbara was the daughter of the late Eugene and Dorothy Cottrell. In 1985, she graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in Textile Science. Barbara married Dan Keating in October 1989, and the two raised three daughters together over the course of their nearly 37 years of marriage. Later in life, she joined her husband at Bath Fitter, working side-by-side and building a successful business.
Barbara was known for her kind heart, intelligence, and dry sense of humor. She had an infectious laugh, went above and beyond for her family and close friends, and fiercely protected her children. She was beautiful, determined, independent, and silly. She also had a competitive side, and anyone who played a game with Barbara knew she was playing to win.
She enjoyed gardening, antiquing, puzzling, appreciating art, and spending summer days by her pool. She always had a book on her nightstand and loved sitting on the porch watching the hummingbirds with her husband.
Barbara’s greatest accomplishment was the family she built. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and an adoring grandmother. Barbara loved spending time with her children and grandchildren most of all.
Barbara is survived by her husband J. Daniel “Dan” Keating; her children Ellen Keating, Molly Hoyceanyls, and Rose Keating; her grandchildren Jane, Henley, and Brady Hoyceanyls; her sisters Susan Law and Patricia Cross; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her brother Robert Cottrell.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation to be held on Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea. Barbara’s funeral will be held Monday, July 13, 2026, at 9:00 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 530 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea. Burial will be private.
