

Cheryl A. (Crompton) Longton, age 79, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Dighton on Monday, April 8, 2024. She was the beloved wife of David E. Longton with whom she shared 36 years of adventure and marriage.
Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Herbert and Phyllis (Seaman) Crompton, she was a longtime resident of Dighton.
A dedicated server, she worked for many years at Georgio’s Steak House and the Old Grist Mill before retiring.
She attended Dighton High School and was a graduate of the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School, Class of 1962 and earned a degree in Travel Agency from Bristol Community College. Cheryl cherished nature and being outdoors; she enjoyed mountain climbing and camping. A volunteer with David for 20 years at bird sanctuaries in Santa Anna and Salineno, TX, they also volunteered at state parks in Alaska. A world traveler, she was a Girl Scout Troop leader in Dighton for 8 years, where she accidently and unexpectedly stumbled upon a nude beach with her troop.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Lorie L. Van Hook and her husband John of Dighton; three sons, Steven Andrews and his partner Becky, Brad Andrews and Darren Andrews, all from California; four stepsons, Patrick, Stephen, Thomas and Nicholas Longton; one brother, Gerald Crompton; three grandsons, Kyle Van Hook, Connor Andrews and Cole Andrews and her beloved rescue dog, Buddy. She was the grandmother of the late Tory E. Andrews.
