

Christene E. (Bassett) Teller, “Chris,” age 99, formerly of Swansea, died Sunday, September 12, 2010 in the Shady Acres Nursing Home in West Kingston, R.I. She would have celebrated her 100th birthday on September 28th.
Born in Chatham, Massachusetts, a daughter of the late Harold and Gertrude (Bassett) Bassett, she spent her youth in Chatham, lived in Marlboro, MA, and in Swansea for over 50 years before moving to Rhode Island over three years ago. She was a descendent of Joseph Rogers who came over on the Mayflower.
Mrs. Teller was a graduate of Chatham High School and was a waitress at the former Dunrovin Farm now Kent’s Restaurant for over 25 years.
She was very involved in the church and church activities, and was a gold star mother. During her youth she was a caddy at the Chatham Bars Inn, in Chatham, MA, was a scratch golfer and owned a pacer race horse. She enjoyed gardening and most of all spending time with her family.
She is survived by one son, Walter I. Teller Jr. of Borrego Springs, CA, one daughter Patricia M. Wood and her husband Al of Exeter, RI, one sister Harriet Darsch of Plymouth, MA, eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was mother of the late John and David Teller and Barbara Duplessis and sister of the late Louise Dudley, Sumner Bassett, Nellie Dyer, Josephine Emerick, Joyce Brown, and Everett Bassett.
Her visiting hours will be held Friday, September 17, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00PM in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at BIRCHCREST 189 Gardners Neck Rd. Swansea. Her Funeral services and burial will be private.
