Dean H. Tolchinsky, age 77, passed away peacefully at his home in Fall River Wednesday, September 20, 2023. He was the loving husband of Donna M. (Dupont) Tolchinsky with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.
Born in South Bend, IN the son of the late Leo and Bernice (Katz) Tolchinsky he was a longtime resident of Swansea coming from Michigan City, IN.
A graduate of Elston Senior High School in Michigan City, Class of 1964 he went on to serve in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, receiving three Purple Hearts and a Letter of Commendation from President Lyndon Johnson. He also served in the Army National Guard. Dean graduated from Bristol Community College in 1976 with an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice. A supervisor at Ashworth Brothers, Inc. in Fall River for 10 years he was then a Production Controller at Texas Instruments in Attleboro for twelve years. He loved watching golf, going to Hershey Park with his wife and children, sitting at Heritage Park with his wife watching the boats, and also enjoyed fishing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Derek L. Tolchinsky and Damon M. Tolchinsky, both of Swansea; one daughter, Dawn M. Menard and her husband Paul of Fall River; two sisters Sheila Ito and Caryn Glossinger and her husband Donnie, both of Michigan City; seven grandchildren, Felicia Savage, Jacob Menard and his wife Julia, Shawn Tolchinsky, Courtney Menard, Kaitlyn Tolchinsky, Hannah Tolchinsky and Dylan Menard and several nieces and nephews and cousins. He also leaves behind several friends.
His service will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at 11:00AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea. Visitation will be held prior to his service from 10:00 to 11:00AM. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial with military honors to follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:30PM.
