Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Philodore & Laurence (LaFrance) Martinville. She resided in Fall River and Dighton, but spent most of her life as a resident of Somerset.
She attended Diman Vocational High School and spent many years working in the mills of Fall River as a seamstress. She had many jobs over the course of her life including 17 years at Rite Aid and a small catering business she ran with her husband and children, but her passion was being a seamstress and helping those in need.
Diana was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Swansea where she was awarded the Marion Medal and enjoyed volunteering in as well as organizing many church activities. She was also a past President of Our Lady of Fatima Guild.
Diana is survived by her brother Roger Martinville (wife Peggy) of Warren, RI; son Todd Bettencourt (wife Tammy) of Tiverton, RI; daughter Cheryl (Bettencourt) Sakell (husband Joshua) of Somerset; eight grandchildren: Phoebe & Elvis Bettencourt, Fred & Jillian Preece, Ethan & Hailey Kappes, and Kaleb & Shaylee Sakell; brother-in-law William Hardin of Westport as well as many nieces & nephews and a god daughter. She was the sister of the late Helene Hardin, Anthony Martinville, and Rose Syde; as well as the mother-in-law of the late Karen (Estrella) Bettencourt.
Following a private cremation, relatives and friends are invited to a Funeral Service on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at 9:00 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 530 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
