Born in Dartmouth, the daughter of the late John J. and Alice (Ponte) Openshaw, she was a life-long resident of the area.
A graduate of New Bedford High School and Saint Luke’s School of Nursing, she was a registered nurse in labor and delivery in both Truesdale and St. Luke’s Hospital for 38 years before retiring.
She was the mother of the late Heather M. and Thomas B. Eastwood and sister of the late John J. and Robert Openshaw.
A lover of animals, Dottie also enjoyed knitting, quilting, reading and working sudoku puzzles.
She is survived by three children: Mary Jane “MJ” Rebello and her husband Leonel of Assonet, Susan Beth Boutin and her husband Joseph of Lakeville and Harold J. Eastwood, Jr. and his wife Diane of Swansea; a half-brother, James Openshaw and his wife Queenie of New Bedford; sister-in-law, M. Irene Price of Fall River; five grandchildren, Brendan, Ryan and Chandra Eastwood, and Amber and Hunter Boutin; three great grandchildren, Evan, Ariella, and Kinleigh, and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Country Gardens and Compassionate Care Hospice for their professional care provided to Dottie.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 9:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, followed by her Funeral Mass 10:00 AM in Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 530 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea. Visiting hours, Monday, from 4:00 to 7:00PM. Contributions in her honor may be made to the Faxon Animal Rescue League, 474 Durfee St., Fall River, MA 02720.
