Douglas Francis MacDougall, sailor, raconteur, technology pioneer loving husband and father, died on Monday December 1st 2014 at the age of 73. He passed peacefully at the Dighton, Ma home he shared with Terry his devoted wife of over 40 years. Also surviving Douglas are children Christopher and Tenia , brother Theodore and his wife Susan, sister Ann Fenton, nephews, Peter MacDougall, James MacDougall, Donald Fenton Jr., Sean Fenton, niece, Cheryl Fenton and sister-in-law, Ida Kniolek. He is preceded in death by his parents F. Douglas and Loretta MacDougall.
From an early age Doug (Buddy) exhibited quick wit, charm and an intelligence that would come to serve him well in business and life. In 1973, he became a pioneer in the high tech industry, helming his company, Microdon, specializing in designing materials and equipment for micro processing. Some years later, as the business grew; Terry joined the company and contributed to its continued success.
Known for his sense of humor, Doug was also a kind and caring man who rarely met a stranger. His depth of knowledge and unique insight made him a lively, engaging conversationalist and a compelling storyteller.
Doug’s love for the ocean leads him to sailing which he did for pleasure and competition. He was a member of the New Bedford Yacht Club, the port of which many adventures took place. Doug loved his role as Fleet Captain. Guiding a group of sailors around, being the beacon of light and knowledge made him one of the best Captains around. He also accomplished, twice, the race from Marion, Ma to Bermuda.
He has many trophies for various life quests, boat races, work and even bowling, but the best accomplishment for him; being a son, brother, husband, father and friend.
With deepest love and honor to know you, we love you and will miss you.
