She was the daughter of the late Owen O'Shaughnessey and Margaret (Peg McDonald) O'Shaughnessey. She was the sister of the late Michael O'Shaughnessey.
Fran is survived by her son, Thomas O'Shaughnessey, and his life partner, Emily Rivera, and Fran's pride and joy, her grandson Owen O'Shaughnessey. She is also survived by her sister Patricia Hebda and brother-in-law Michael Hebda, as well as many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
Fran enjoyed the many trips to Disney World with the family. She loved going out to eat and spending all holidays and celebrations with family and friends. Everyone who knows Fran knows she was a big fan of the Boston Celtics. She would watch every game on TV and looked forward to going to Boston to see a game every year with her nephew, Dan.
Fran retired after 37 years on the job as the Public Safety Administrative Assistant for the Somerset Fire and Police Department. Besides her work in the fire station, Fran was the records clerk and worked on the budgets and payroll for the Somerset Police Department. Her office was in the Fire Station, and she wore a Fire Department Uniform with pride.
She served on the Cable advisory committee, handled hazardous waste collection days, and did the Scholarship work for the Firefighters Union. She was listed as working 35 hours per week, but was known to put in 50 or 60 hours to help others as much as she could. She started as a dispatcher, took the firefighters exam and became an Emergency Medical Technician before her administrative assistant job. The Fire Department was family to Fran, and they were there for her even after she retired. Fran has said, "Firefighters have a special Bond."
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Fire Chief Steven Rivard and Police Chief James Smith who have always been such a support for Fran. Also, her other loyal friends who continued to visit her throughout her illness. We would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff of Catholic Memorial Nursing Home.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025 from Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea, Ma at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Peace, St. Louis de France, 56 Buffinton St. Swansea, Ma. 02777 at 10AM.
