

Born in Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal, a son of the late Manuel L. and Guilhermina J. (Rego) Alves, he immigrated to the United States in 1966 at the age of 15, settling in Bristol, Rhode Island and lived in Swansea for many years. He also wintered in Englewood, Florida.
He worked for I.T.T. and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for many years before retiring in 1999. A lover of music, he played bass guitar with local bands.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: David W. Alves and his wife Persephone of Swansea, Mark C. Alves and his companion Jasmine R. Cleary of Fall River, Nichole L. Alves of Swansea, one brother: Laurenio Alves and his wife Gilda of Bristol, three sisters: Mary Jean Machado of Bristol, Zita Soares and her husband Donald of Bristol, Mary Abate and her husband Chuck of Warren, three grandchildren: Sydney and Ethan Alves, Cole Travers, and many nieces and nephews.
His Funeral will be held on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 10:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM in St. Dominic’s Church, 1277 G.A.R. Highway, Swansea. Visiting hours Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00PM. Contributions in his honor may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Framingham, MA 02241. Burial in Nathan Slade Cemetery, Somerset.
