

George Joseph Shott Jr., age 85, of Swansea, died suddenly March 20, 2011. He was the husband of the late Audrey Anne (White) Shott, who died February 20, 2011, and the son of the late George J. Shott Sr., and the late Katharine (Delahunt) Shott, both of Somerset.
Born in Fall River and a 1943 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Mr. Shott lived most of his life in Swansea. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, having served with American occupation forces in Japan.
Mr. Shott was employed by the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey (now Exxon) for more than 20 years before retiring in 1970. He owned and operated Colony Emblems of Swansea for more than 25 years until retiring in 1990. He attended Northeastern University, Duquesne University and Ohio University.
Mr. Shott was a high school and college football official for 30 years and a longtime member of the Southeastern Massachusetts Football Officials Association and Eastern Association of Intercollegiate Football Officials. After retiring as an official, he worked as a clock operator at college football games for the Eastern College Athletic Conference for many years.
Mr. Shott was a communicant of St. Dominic’s Church of Swansea, where he served as a lector and Eucharist Minister for many years. A longtime member of the YMCA of Greater Fall River, he was also a former member of the Swansea Historical Cultural Assets Commission.
Mr. Shott is survived by two daughters, Katherine M. (Shott) McDonough of Norwood and Barbara M. Shott of East Greenwich, RI; two sons, Christopher G. Shott of Swansea and Michael J. Shott of Akron, Ohio; two sons-in-law, Paul V. McDonough of Norwood and John F. Killoran of Somerset; a daughter-in-law Elisabeth A. Bacus of Akron; Barbara’s companion, Douglas R. Shearer of East Greenwich; two granddaughters, Kathleen M. (Killoran) Milewski and her husband, Michael, both of Framingham, and Ellen M. Killoran of Brooklyn, N.Y; three grandsons, David P. McDonough and his wife, Melissa, both of New York City, John W. Killoran and his wife, Jennifer, both of West Hollywood, CA, and Michael P. McDonough of Cambridge; a great-grandson, John P. Milewski of Framingham; two great-granddaughters, Audrey G. Milewski of Framingham and Alice W. Killoran of West Hollywood; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Kathleen Cummins of Bowie, MD., and Margaret Nestor of Brockton.
His Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 9am in St. Dominic’s Church 1277 GAR Highway, Swansea. Visiting hours Thursday from 4 to 7pm in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT BIRCHCREST 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea.
