Hilda (Castanho) King, 92, passed away Thursday afternoon surrounded by her family. A longtime resident of Swansea, she was the daughter of the late John M. Castanho and Mary (Frias) Castanho and the loving wife of 47 years to the late Thomas J. King Sr.
She was the proud mother of Thomas King Jr., Robert King, Richard King, and Mary E. McMahon who preceded her in death. She was also the sister of the late John Castanho. She is survived by her sister Evelyn Castanho of Fall River, daughter-in-law Linda King, and daughters Patricia Donaldson (husband- Frank) of California and Cathleen Costa (husband-Manuel) of Somerset. Hilda was the proud and enthusiastic grandparent of 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She and her husband owned many local businesses, and she also served as a special needs van driver for the town of Swansea for many years. Among her many talents, Hilda enjoyed painting, knitting, and gardening as well as music and traveling. More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Visiting hours will be held Monday, October 7, 2013 from 8:15-9:15AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Birchcrest Home, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St. Thomas More Church, 386 Luther Ave., Somerset. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hilda’s most dear charities, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to St. Anthony Missionary. Burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Swansea.
