Diagnosed with lung cancer early in 2019, Jim fought hard against the disease, but unfortunately lost the battle. Jim was so proud that he had quit smoking at the age of 50 and had committed himself to leading a healthy life from that time forward. He walked 3 miles a day for many years and was proud of that achievement.
An alumnus of Bishop Stang High School, class of 1967, Jim worked in retail for his entire career as a manager and sales associate. After retiring, he went on to enjoy his true passion; singing. Jim had an amazing voice and took great pleasure in sharing his talent with audiences. For the past 10 years, he sang at clubs in and around Providence and won several contests doing so. Jim loved playing basketball and enthusiastically did so for many teams and organizations over the course of his life. Jim was also an avid fan of both the Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots.
Jim leaves behind his beloved fiancée Debbie Sherrill, partner in life for the last 15 years, and her children, son Darnell, wife Chelsea; and daughter Mariah. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Finglas, wife June; eldest daughter Karen Dodge, husband Robert; daughter Vanessa Finglas; and daughter Kelly Franklin, husband Mark. Jim was blessed with many grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. In addition, Jim leaves behind two nephews and many loving cousins and friends.
