

Born in Santa Barbara, Sao Miguel, Acores, a son of the late Jose Batista and Deolinda Cabral, he came to the United States in 1981. A Farmer, he worked for Hoogendorn Nursery in Middletown, Rhode Island for over twenty years before retiring. Mr. Batista served in the Portuguese Army.
Mr. Batista was a former member of the Holy Name Society at Espirito Santo Church and a member of the Holy Spirit Society at St. Dominic’s Church. He enjoyed working with wood, in his garage, and in his yard.
Surviving in addition to his wife, six children; Rosa Costa and husband Jimmy, Joao Batista, Joe Batista and wife Paula, Natalia Pacheco and husband John, Octavia Jacome and husband Fernando, Maria Batista and her companion Jerry Dreiss, daughter-in-law; Julie LaFerriere, three sisters; Deolinda Rebelo, Espirito Santo Branco, and Conceicao Medeiros all of Santa Barbara, Sao Miguel, Acores, nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Antonio “Tony” Batista who passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2015.
He and his son Tony’s Funeral will be held together on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 8:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute, 189 Gardners Neck Rd. Swansea followed by a funeral Mass at 9am at St. Dominic's Church, 1277 GAR Highway, Swansea, MA. Visiting hours Friday from 4:00 to 7:00PM. Contributions in his honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472. Burial in Vinnicum Woods Cemetery, Swansea.
