Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Joseph and Shirley (Smith) Arruda. He worked for FC construction for over 40 years and was a proud member of the local union 610.
Known for his work ethic, Joseph loved being on a job site and considered it his second home. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed going to and watching car races. He took great pride in his yard, but above all else, his greatest joy in life was his two grandchildren.
Joseph is survived by three siblings, Deborah Adam and her husband Peter, Jay Arruda and his wife Patricia all of Swansea, the late Michael Arruda and his wife Paula, and David Arruda; three grandchildren, Jamie Aguiar and Jo’lyn Arruda both of Swansea, and Destinie Arruda; special friend, Debbie Biancuzzo of RI; his former wife Dale Arruda of Fall River as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Joseph and Kimberly Arruda.
Joseph’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the kind staff at Southcoast Oncology. The family will be forever grateful to Dr. Ryzk, Nikki Medeiros, and Kelly Santos for the exceptional care they provided.
His Visitation will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026 from 8:00 to 11:00 AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, followed by a Service in the funeral home at 11:00 AM.
