Joyce M. (Barboza) Dolin, age 79, of Swansea, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of Gene Dolin, with whom she shared 57 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Fall River, Joyce was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Sousa) Barboza. A proud 1963 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, she went on to graduate from Union Hospital’s School of Nursing. She later earned her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and a master’s degree in Management from Lesley College.
Joyce dedicated her life to nursing and healthcare, beginning her career at Charlton Memorial Hospital (formerly Union Hospital) and eventually becoming Director of Southeast Rehab at Charlton and Moran 3. In that role, she also oversaw several programs at Charlton Memorial, St. Luke’s, and Tobey Hospitals, leaving a lasting impact on patients and colleagues alike throughout her distinguished career.
She was a proud alumna of Union Hospital’s School of Nursing and an active member of both the Charlton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Post 303. Joyce found great joy in traveling and cherished hosting family and friends at summer barbecues and holiday gatherings. She loved to go out for dinner and drinks with “the ladies”. Mimi also took great pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren, and watching her “stories”.
In addition to her beloved husband, Gene, Joyce is survived by her daughter, Kerri L. Dolin and her companion Carl Cioe of Swansea; her son, Jeffrey B. Dolin and his wife Krista Roth of Somerville, MA; and her cherished grandchildren, Henry Dolin, Sadie Dolin, and Aliyah Cioe. She also leaves behind her sisters, Judith Pearson of Fall River, and Jeanne Lonergan and her husband Bill of Las Vegas, NV; her brother, Stephen Barboza and his wife Marie of Delaware; her sisters-in-law, Pamela Dias and her husband Anthony of Westport, and Linda Taylor of Westport; and many loving nieces and nephews. Joyce was also the daughter-in-law of the late Billy and Mary Dolin and sister-in-law of the late Frederick Pearson, James Dolin, and Bruce Loudin, III.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 9:00 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Dominic’s Church, G.A.R.
