OBITUARY

Kathleen "Katia" Buchler Lund

July 13, 1943June 14, 2021

Katia Buchler Lund, age 77 of Swansea, passed away on Monday June 14th at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of John C. Lund, to whom she had been married for 53 years.

Born in New York, NY, Katia was the daughter of the late Steven and Mary (McManus) Buchler and the sister of the late Anne Reilly and Mimi Buchler. In addition to her husband, Katia is survived by her three children Cristina M. Lund-Tack and her husband David of West Newton, Michael B. Lund and his wife Nicole of Fall River and Brendan C. Lund and his wife Erin of Berkley; her seven grandchildren Colin, Dylan, Buchler, Morgan, John Joseph, Jackson and Connor, and several nieces and nephews.

Katia was a graduate of The Ursuline School in New Rochelle and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree from the College of New Rochelle and her Masters of Education at Bridgewater State University.

Within a month of Katia’s marriage to John, the newlyweds went to Brazil to serve in the Peace Corps. They returned home a year and a half later and settled in Swansea, MA. Having been an immigrant herself in Brazil, it was only natural that after having three children Katia began a thirty year career, which she truly loved, teaching English as a Second Language at Bristol Community College in Fall River, MA until her retirement in 2007.

Katia was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Fatima, now St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Swansea. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at 11am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 530 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea. Her family will receive guests prior to her mass from 10 to 11am in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael H. Flanagan Foundation in honor of Katia Lund, PO Box 708, Barrington, RI 02806 or www.mikesfoundation.com . Arrangements are in the care of the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest. Mr. Lund, Cristina, Michael and Brendan.... On behalf of myself and my siblings we are so saddened of Kathy's passing. She was such a wonderful woman and always cared for others before herself. My first memories of her and John were the many summer nights sitting on the outdoor patio at Cedar Cove Club. Those recollections of John, Kathy, my mom and dad(sipping on Lime Rickeys I think) and the rest of the Club crew brings me heartfelt memories. I was very young then and although it was a long time ago I recall my conversations with her. They were always heartfelt and sincere as well as educating. She was always a class act, very caring, and dedicated to teaching. I hope your family makes it through this challenging time by remembering all those great memories spent together.
Please accept our heartfelt condolences. Kathy was one of the most thoroughly decent people we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Rest In peace Mrs. Lund. ❤️🙏

Katia was an insightful and inspiring woman. She was always happy to listen to any of our questions(nurses) and offering her knowledge and life experience. I’m grateful I had the pleasure of meeting her and John. I’m so very sorry for your loss.

One of my favorite quotes came from Mrs. Lund: A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle. John, Tina, Michael and Brendan - my deepest condolences for the loss of such a wonderful woman. I trust she is in her glory with our Lord and Savior! Regards, Jeannine Boisvert

I only remember her as "Mrs. Lund" and it has been many years since I have seen her. My memories of her are always of a kind, funny and intelligent person. She shuttled a bunch of teenagers back and forth to school in her VW Vanagon but never showed her (presumed) frustration with us. If you ask me, the world simply doesn't have enough "Mrs. Lunds".

Katia was the person you could count on to make you smile. She lived life to the fullest. She was at home in our small Point Pleasant community in St. Thomas. She was always looking forward to being with friends at the beach. Katia and John were a great couple together that always were the life of the party. We will miss the great times we had together in our beautiful Caribbean Island.

Memories, I have so many! I had the honor of having her as my sister in law for 51 years. We shared so many wonderful times over the years: holidays, birthdays, vacations, weddings. Bill and I had so much fun when we were together with John and Kathy.
Her zest for life was contagious,
and she fought so hard for so long.
I will truly miss her.
Kathy, rest in peace. I know God has taken you in his arms. You deserve that!

I was so saddened to hear of Kathy’s passing. She was a wonderful colleague and mentor with a kind heart and a good sense of humor. I always listened to her carefully thought out advice. She enriched my life and the lives of her students in so many ways.
