

Lorraine A. (Martin) Silveira, age 85, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Catholic Memorial Home at the hour of Divine Mercy surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Manuel H. Silveira.
Born in Fall River, a daughter of Edward J. and Alberta (Desbiens) Martin, she was a lifelong resident of Swansea. A graduate of Mt. Saint Mary’s Academy, class of 1954, she earned a Diploma in Nursing from St. Anne’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. Lorraine was a dedicated nurse who worked at St. Anne’s Hospital for over 40 years. Throughout her career, Lorraine mentored many nurses. She retired as Director of Critical Care, Pediatrics and Patient Registration in 1999. She was a member of the Ethics Committee at the Hospital and a volunteer at Marie’s Place for many years.
A communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, a Eucharist Minister, a member of the Catholic Women’s Club and a Parish Nurse, she was a lay associate of the Dominican Sisters of the Presentation in Dighton.
Lorraine was dedicated to her faith and career and above all, she loved being a wife, mother and especially a grandmother.
She is survived by 7 children, Elaine Morin and her husband Ronald of N. Providence, James Silveira and his wife Emilia of Oceanside, CA, Suzanne Lefevre and her husband Thomas of Swansea, Karen Kmetz and her husband Keith of Plainville, Janet Maynard and her fiancé Richard Lennox of Warren, John Silveira and his wife Linda of Swansea, Bob Silveira and his wife Amanda of Swansea, 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Rita Cyr, Claire Machado, Raymond, Normand and Donald Martin.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 16, 2022 at 9:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church 530 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00PM. Contributions in her honor may be made to the Dominican Sisters of the Presentation 3012 Elm St., Dighton MA, 02715. Burial at Mount Hope Cemetery, Swansea.
