Margaret Jane Chretien

Margaret Jane (Buote) Chretien, “Maggie”, age 73, of Fall River, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, August 18, 2022. She was the beloved wife of Stephen C. Chretien and the former wife of Michael J. Silvia, Sr.

Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Arthur V. and Madeline (Wood) Buote.

After graduating from Fall River Girl’s Vocational High School in 1969, Maggie worked at ATT Phone Co. where she was employed for 9 ½ years. She then moved to Texas for the next 10 years, before returning to Massachusetts in 1989. Maggie then began working at Clifton Nursing Home and then for Charlton Memorial Hospital as an ER Technician for 20 years. She took a leave of absence while battling cancer, but after beating the disease, she returned to the hospital, retiring at the age of 65.

Maggie loved to sew, cook, knit, and spend time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren whom she adored.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Michael J. Silvia, Jr. and his wife Kerrie of Fall River, Mark J. Silvia and his wife Allyson of Lakeville, and Scott T. Silvia and his wife Nikki of St. Mary’s, GA; two brothers, Victor and Rodger Buote; two step-children, Scott Chretien and his wife Lisa of Swansea and Amy Szargowicz and her husband Peter of Assonet; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 29, 2022 from 8:00 to 9:00 AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in Good Shepherd Parish, 1598 S Main St., Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
