Maria F. Sousa

Maria F. (Paixao) Sousa, age 70, of North Dighton, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2015 in St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston. She was the wife of Luis B. Souza to whom she has been married for the past 49 years.

Born in Sergipe, Brazil, she spent her youth in Rio de Janeiro, immigrated to the United States in 1972 settling in Fall River where she lived for many years before moving to North Dighton five years ago.

In addition to raising and caring for her children and grandchildren who she adored, Mrs. Sousa also worked at the former Chace Curtain Manufacturing Company in Fall River.

Proud of her Brazilian heritage, she loved Samba music and cheering for her Brazilian soccer team.

In addition to her husband she is survived by three children; Valerie C. Verssimo and her husband John of Fall River, Miriam F. DeSousa and her husband David of North Dighton, Luis Claude Sousa and his wife Stacy of Somerset, six grandchildren; Taisha, Cameron, Maya, Noah, Ella, Gwen, and one great-granddaughter Gabriella.

Her Funeral will be held on Friday, October 2, 2015 at 9:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Louis de France Church, 56 Buffington St., Swansea. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00PM. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
