Maria S. (Carreiro) Vieira, age 92, formerly of Swansea, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Catholic Memorial Home in Fall River. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio Vieira, with whom she shared many cherished years of marriage.
Born in São Miguel, Azores, Maria was the daughter of the late Manuel and Julieta Carreiro.
A devoted member of St. Dominic's Church in Swansea, Maria was a hardworking and dedicated woman. She was employed as a machine operator with Carol Cable for 30 years before retiring in 1995.
Maria found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved knitting, preparing meals for those she loved, tending to her garden, and, above all, spending time with her ever-growing family. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will be remembered always.
She is survived by her loving children, Louis Vieira and his wife, Grace, of New Bedford, Edward Vieira and his wife, Maura, of Brazil, Michael Vieira and his wife, Susan, of Rehoboth, and Elizabeth Vieira, of Swansea. She also leaves behind 17 cherished grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Maria Fontaine and Antonio Vieira, Jr. and sister of the late Jamie, Manuel, Jose, Emelia, Julieta, Conceição, Gilberta, Angelina and Leontina Carreiro.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 2, 2026 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea. Her funeral will be held Monday, August 3, 2026, at 9:00 AM form the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Dominic’s Church, G.A.R. Highway, Swansea. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Swansea.
