Muriel (Poirier) Flannery, age 91, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 15, 2023 surrounded by her family in Clifton Rehabilitation Nursing Center. She was the wife of the late Robert A. Flannery.
Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Frederick and Laurence (Levesque) Poirier, she was a longtime resident of Swansea, spending many winters in South Palm Beach.
A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Class of 1949, she worked as the Office Manager in the family’s automotive sales business, Poirier, Inc., for over fifty years. Passionate about traveling, she enjoyed her visits to New Hampshire and Cape Cod. A skilled gourmet cook she delighted in staying active with her bowling league, skiing and playing golf at the Touisset Country Club. Ms. Flannery was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi.
Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Muriel was met with kindness and love. “Mom”, “Nana” and “Gigi” will be greatly missed by her family. She is survived by two daughters, Susan J. Luther and her husband Wayne of Cumberland, RI and Sharon J. Medeiros and her husband Michael of Swansea; four grandchildren, Gregg Medeiros, Brett Medeiros and his wife Jocelyn, Daniel Luther and his wife Nikki and Michael Luther; three great-grandchildren, Riley Medeiros, Casey Medeiros and Rosie Luther and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Maurice Poirier, Clarice Flannery, Jeanne Parisee, Cis Gardella, Paul Poirier, Larry Poirier and Jeannette Campeau.
The family extends their gratitude to the Clifton Family staff for their wonderful care and support they provided Ms. Flannery and her family.
Her private arrangements are in the care of the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, Swansea. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hanover Hospice, 10 North Main Street, Fall River, MA 02720.
