

Patricia A. (Nelson) Cairo, “Patty,” age 75, of Swansea, passed away, Saturday, August 9, 2025, at St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River. She was the wife of Raymond P. Cairo to whom she has been married for the past 59 years.
Born in Cranston, she was a daughter of the late Warren and Edna (Oakes) Nelson. She lived in Providence for many years and Rehoboth prior to moving to Swansea over ten years ago.
She attended Central High School and worked as a C.N.A. for 33 years at Evergreen and Orchard View Nursing Homes, both in East Providence prior to her retirement in 2013.
Patty enjoyed taking rides to Foxwoods, Oakland Beach and stopping at Iggy’s. She and her husband loved to dance, and her family meant everything to her.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Angela Cairo and her spouse Frank Duarte of Swansea; two sons, Raymond Cairo and his wife Eileen of Fall River, Joseph Cairo and his wife Lisa of Johnston; one sister, Peggy Nelson of Cranston; six grandchildren, Brandon and Gage Dyson, Alisa Titus, Zach Cairo, Giana Fortin, Bianca Cairo and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Michael Cairo and sister of the late Raymond and Stevie Nelson.
Private arrangements are in the care of the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, Swansea. Contributions in her honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place., Memphis, TN 38105.
