Born in Newport, RI he was the son of the late Eugene and Susan (Oakley) Kardel.
Mr. Kardel attended Rogers High School, Class of 1965. A veteran of the United States Army he served from 1967 – 1968 during the Vietnam War as a flight engineer on a CH47 Chinook helicopter with the 1stAviation Brigade. He earned the rank of Specialist 5th Class and was awarded the Aircraft Crewman’s Wings, eleven Air Medals, an Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with three Bronze Star attachments and the Vietnam Service Medal.
He is survived by three sons, Kevin M. and his wife Stephanie, Jeffrey P. and his wife Lauren and Stephen J. and his wife Susan; one sister, Barbara Henriques; and five grandchildren, Sienna Servello and her husband Christopher and Ashlee, Nathan, Cole and Kellen Kardel.
His Funeral Service will be held at Monday, September 13, 2021 at 10:00 am in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea followed by burial in Rhode Island Veteran’s Cemetery, Exeter, RI.
