

Rita May (Davis) Tharrett, age 90, of Swansea, Ma, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October, 21, 2011 after a long battle with Alzheimers. Rita was married to the late Dallas Tharrett with whom she enjoyed 54 years of marriage. Beloved mother of her five children, Sherm Tharrett and his wife, Joyce of Mashpee, Dallas Tharrett and his wife, Shirlee of Swansea, Jeanne Dalton of Swansea, Steve Tharrett of South Carolina, and Louise Tharrett and her husband, Rick Griffiths of Westwood, MA. "Grammy" especially loved her eight grandchildren, Wendy Ferriera, Brent Tharrett, Jonas Dalton, Jessica Leonard, Dallas Tharrett, Liz Varney, Alex Griffiths and Delaney Griffiths and her five great grandchildren.
Rita was born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Sherman and Doris Davis from Meridian Street. She was one of 12 children. Rita graduated from Durfee High School in 1938 and attended the Truesdale Hospital Nursing Program. She lived in Swansea for 52 years, she loved music and was known for her beautiful voice, she was an avid singer of church hymns, she volunteered many years at the Swansea Grange helping to put on productions like the "King and I". Rita was a member of the First Congregational Church, Swansea where she devoted many hours to charitable events. She was a member of the Swansea PTA for more than 20 years. In later years, she volunteered with her friend, Bill Bowen for the Veteran's Association.
Rita was a loving mother, a caring friend and a generous neighbor who will be missed by all those who knew her.
Her visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from 7 – 8:30pm in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT BIRCHCREST 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea with Words of Remembrance taking place at 8:15pm. In lieu of flowers, Rita's family asks that donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
