He was born June 26th, 1942, in Boston, to Edward “Eddie “and Pearl (Pforte) Downey. He married Evelyn (Clancy) Downey on July 29th ,1967.
He worked for many years before enlisting into the United States Air Force. During his career as a ground radio technician and field jet mechanic he got to see Mississippi, Texas, North Dakota and Japan. After serving 26 years, he retired as a Master Sergeant (MSgt) in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Robert truly lived his life to the fullest through simple pleasures, chatting with friends and family, snacking, audio books and spending time with his train collection.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn; a daughter Colleen (Downey) Foley and a granddaughter Amanda Foley both of Fall River, Ma; and many nieces, a nephew, and cousins.
He was the father to the late Robert Downey Jr. A father-in-law to the late Brian Foley. A younger brother to the late Edward “Ted” Downey; Big brother to the late Barbara Downey and the late John “Jack” Downey.
Private services are in the care of the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest.
