Robert H. “Bob” Flynn, age 77, of Swansea, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Hope Health Hospice in Providence, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Nancy Q. (Quintal) Flynn, with whom he shared 53 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Thomas L. and Elizabeth (Shockroo) Flynn. Bob grew up in Bristol and later moved to Swansea with his family, where he built a life centered on faith, service, and community.
Bob was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. Prior to enlisting, he earned his master’s degree from Rhode Island College in 1972. After completing his military service, Bob built a long and respected career as a mechanical engineer working for the Navy and several other companies before retiring from Taco in Fall River in 2013.
A deeply faithful man, Bob was an active communicant of St. Dominic’s Church in Swansea, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and led a Bible study group. He was also a dedicated member of the American Legion, the Swansea Historical Society, and the Friends of the Library in Swansea. Known for his generous spirit and enthusiasm, Bob delighted many as St. Nicholas and Santa Claus for both the church and the American Legion, and he helped organize countless meat pie dinners and spaghetti suppers that brought the community together.
Bob’s greatest passion was his lifelong involvement with Boy Scouts of America, Troop 303. A proud Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow, he devoted many years to mentoring young scouts. In recognition of his extraordinary service, he received the prestigious Silver Beaver Award and, most recently, The John S. Brayton Community Service Award.
An avid outdoorsman, Bob loved traveling, camping, and sailing through the Bristol Narrows. He especially cherished those adventures shared with his wife and daughters. He and Nancy also enjoyed square dancing together over the years, and Bob had a lifelong love of music and singing, even performing in a barber shop quartet during his college years. He also enjoyed a good breakfast out, had a fascination with trains, and treasured every opportunity to spend time with family and friends.
Along with his beloved wife, Nancy, he is survived by his daughters, Amy Dallaire and her husband, Paul, of Somerset, and Erin Flynn of Seekonk; and his cherished granddaughters, Shelby, Natalie, and Ellie. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Richard “Dick” Flynn and Marilyn Usher.
His visitation will be held Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM at the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at St. John of God Church, Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be in North Burial Ground, Bristol.
