Robert H. Hawley

Robert H. Hawley, 93 of Swansea, MA passed away on June 9, 2025 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth A. (Phillips) Hawley. Born in Providence, RI he was the son of the late Herbert S. and Margaret S. (Henderson) Hawley.

Robert (Bob) graduated from Brown University with an Sc. B. in Engineering and received a Masters’ Degree in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University. Bob was a Sr. Research Engineer at Brown University until his retirement. He was also President of Robert H. Hawley Engineering Corp. Bob lived in Swansea for 65 years and was a former water commissioner, volunteer fireman, and served on the town finance and advisory committee. He was a member of Christ Church in Swansea where, over the years, he served as Sr. Warden, Vestryman, Financial Secretary, member of the Investment Advisory Committee, member of the Board of Directors for the Day School, and Chairman of the annual Harvest Festival for many years. For thirty years, Bob and Libby spent the winter months on Sanibel Island in Florida where he served as president of their condo association for over twenty years.

Bob is survived by his son Bruce A. Hawley and his wife Donna of Warren, RI; his grandchildren Sara C. Hawley and her husband Aaron W. Shute of Warren, RI, Geoffrey M. Hawley of Portsmouth , RI, and Cori D. Cantrell of Exeter, ME; as well as his four great-grandchildren: David Hawley-Shute and Jack Hawley-Shute of Warren, RI and Wyatt Cantrell and Amelia Cantrell of Exeter, ME. Bob was predeceased by his son Steven R. Hawley (1996) and his first wife, Shirley E. (Adams) Hawley (1985).

His funeral service will be held on Saturday June 21, 2025 at 10:00 am at Christ Church, 57 Main Street Swansea. MA. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial to follow at the Christ Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Christ Church.
