Shelby L. Baer
July 17, 1935 – January 18, 2019
Shelby Louise Baer, 83, of Swansea, passed away peacefully at home in hospice surrounded by family members on January 18, 2019 after dementia. She was the loving wife of fifty years to the late Linwood Maines Baer, Jr.
Born in Van Buren, ME on July 17, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Lebel Violette and the late Joseph Rahul Violette. She grew up in Portland, ME and graduated from Cathedral HS in Portland in 1954. After moving to Providence, RI, she married Linwood in Swansea, MA on May 25, 1963 and raised their family as a stay-at-home mom in Somerset and then Swansea where she lived out the rest of her life.
Shelby belonged to Cedar Cove Club and then Heritage Farms w/her family and was a member at Christ (Episcopal) Church, Swansea. She worked for the offices of the Catholic Diocese of Fall River, MA for several years after raising children. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. During her husband’s retirement she enjoyed traveling and wintering w/him in Naples, Florida. She will be sadly missed by her children and grandchildren.
Shelby is survived by a son, David of Swansea; her son Douglas and his wife Cynthia of Narragansett and their children Lindsey, Dylan, and Charlie; her daughter, Susan Zeitler and her husband Eugene of Sherman, CT, and their children Shae and Olivia; and her daughter Cheryl Rohrer and her husband Timothy of Pittsford, NY and their children Katie, Ted, Jack, and Hugh; one sister, Cindy Morin of Westbrook, ME and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Glenna Moulton, Clayton Violette and J.W. Violette.
Her Requiem Eucharist will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 10am in Christ Episcopal Church, 57 Main St., Swansea. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours will be held Friday from 4:30 to 6:30PM in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME at BIRCHCREST, 189 Gardner’s Neck Rd. Swansea. Contributions in her honor may be made to Christ Church, 57 Main St., Swansea, MA 02777. Burial in Christ Church Cemetery.
