Theresa (Postiglione) Williamson, “Tree,” age 83, of Swansea, died and entered Eternal Life Sunday, December 17, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was the wife of John H. Williamson to whom she has been married for the past sixty-one years.
Born in Corona, Long Island, New York, she was the daughter of the late Rocco and Elsie (Sieglen) Postiglione. A graduate of the former Dominican Academy, she received her nursing degree from the former St. Anne’s Hospital School of Nursing.
A Registered Nurse, she worked for the Town of Swansea and Bristol Elders for twenty-five years before retiring in 1993.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son; John T. Williamson and his wife Barbara of Woodbridge, VA; one daughter; Lisa Plezia and her husband Chris of Middletown, RI; two grandchildren, Cameron and Sammy Plezia; one brother; John Postiglione and his wife, Dana, of Willis, VA; two sisters; Jeanette Hasprey of Fall River, Sister Marianne Postiglione, RSM of St. Louis, MO and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her sisters Tina Bliss and Frances H. Shea.
“Tree” was an avid reader not only of paperbacks-- mostly mysteries-- but books on her treasured iPad as well. She loved word games playing with an intensity that brooked no competition. That sense of friendly competition continued with her love of Bocce. For years she and her husband, Harry, went weekly to the Bocce courts to play with their teams. She and Harry were lifelong Patriots fans. Their cheering could be heard beyond the walls of their Swansea home during a weekend game. Theresa’s cooking expertise was legend. Those who enjoyed her homemade lasagna and other dinner delights always returned for more.
Although ALS is a terrible disease, it brought family members closer together in constant support of “Tree” during the past year. Among her immediate family: daughter, son and their spouses, special gratitude is paid to her niece, Marianne Cabral, whose daily devotion to Theresa during these difficult months provided not only physical support but spiritual comfort as well. Cameron and Sammy, her beloved grandchildren, were truly the light of her heart and life; her smile became even warmer when she spoke of them.
Her Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 3,2018 at 10:00AM in the Holy Cross Chapel, 47 Pulaski St., Fall River, MA. Relatives and friends invited. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her honor may be made to A.L.S., 315 Norwood Park South, Norwood, MA 02062. Burial private.
