

She was born in Liverpool, England the daughter of the late James H. and Alice (Piper) Kelly and immigrated to the United States in the early 1960’s and has been a resident of Swansea for 49 years.
Mrs. Carey was employed as a Mid-Wife for several years in England before moving to Canada and starting her career as a Registered Nurse at Montreal General Hospital before moving to Swansea and working for many years at the former Union Hospital and Truesdale Clinic in Fall River.
She was a member of the former St. Peter’s Parish in Dighton where she taught CCD. Mrs. Carey enjoyed crossword puzzles and spending time at her summer residence in Mattapoisett with family and friends.
She is survived by her two children Timothy Carey and his wife Kelly and Katharine A. Carey-Acord and her husband John all of Swansea; four grandchildren Andrew Edward and Allison Elizabeth Acord and Connor Michael and Victoria Grace Carey; a sister Frances Williams of England, two brothers Peter Kelly of England and Michael Kelly of Australia and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Carey was also the sister of the late Veronica O’Rourke and Joan Kayarian.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 9am from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT BIRCHCREST 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea followed by her funeral mass at 10am in St. Louis deFrance Church 56 Buffington St., Swansea. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4-7pm.
