

Born in Fall River a son of the late Simon and Sofia (Lizak) Sarna, he was a lifelong Swansea resident. He attended school in Fall River, later moving to Swansea. He was a member of the United States Navy, as a A.S. V6. He was employed at Globe Manufacturing, retiring in 1988.
Walter loved his family and friends and was extremely proud of his Polish heritage. He had campaigned to add the Polish flag at the Kosciuszko Monument at Kosciuszko Square in Fall River at South Main Street and Hamlet Street. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, loved Polish and Country music and was a Buick enthusiast. Walter loved making people laugh with his jokes.
He is survived by his wife, one daughter: Janice (Sarna) Cyburt of N. Providence, a son: Walter T. Sarna, Jr., two sisters: Josephine Fitzgerald and Nellie Millerick of Somerset, one granddaughter: Melissa Lizio and her husband Bryan of RI, one great-grandson: Logan Lizio. He was predeceased by a daughter: Joan Sarna and three brothers: Joseph, John and Stanley Sarna and one sister: Jenny Kowalczyk.
His Funeral Service will be Friday, December 09, 2016 at 12:00PM in Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea, visitation prior from 10:00AM to 12:00PM. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Swansea. Relatives and friends invited.
