William “Bill” Mullen, age 82, of Somerset, passed away peacefully in his home on June 26, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Anne Marie “Annie” (Smith) Mullen, with whom he shared 56 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Fall River, the son of the late Robert E. and Edna (Corner) Mullen, he was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School and a United States Navy veteran, serving overseas as a medic.
Bill was a supervisor in the trucking industry for 48 years. He began his career with Old Colony, and the last 37 years were spent with Univar USA, where he served as Bulk Transportation Manager for the Northeast Region, until his retirement in 2013. Bill earned a reputation as a highly disciplined manager, and those who worked with him were held to his high expectations.
In addition to his beloved wife Annie, Bill is survived by his daughter, Dana Mullen and her husband, Ronald Contreras, of Westport; two cherished granddaughters, Gabriella and Alessandra Contreras; his brother, Richard A. Mullen and his wife, Barbara, of Tiverton; his best friend, Mike Turbitt and his wife, Kathy, of Lincoln, RI; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Robert E. Mullen, Jr. and his wife, Peggy.
Most of all, Bill was a proud and devoted grandfather who enjoyed spending time and sharing his wisdom and life lessons with his granddaughters, whom he lovingly spoiled. Bill often shared that his grandchildren were among life’s greatest joys.
He loved life and never missed an opportunity for food, fun, and laughter. He enjoyed fine dining with family and friends, lunch outings with his brother Dick and friend Mike, trips to Foxwoods Casino, and attending Contreras family gatherings and celebrations.
Bill’s wit, humor, and generosity will be deeply cherished and missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a lasting legacy as a loving husband, father, and grandfather—simply the very best.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, time, and place to be announced. Private funeral and burial arrangements are in the care of the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest in Swansea.
