Alymer Turner passed away quietly on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, Inverness, NS. He was 91. Born in New Haven, Victoria County, he was the last surviving son of Mary (Burrage) and Alfred Turner. Alymer was a fisherman for all of his working life. Even though he had lost his hand and forearm in an accident in his early life, Alymer was still able to enjoy all the things he loved; cutting wood, hunting, playing cards and restoring fishing gear to sell to tourists. He could do more with one hand than many could with two.
Alymer is survived by his sister, Lillian Morse, East Tremont, NS and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Thomas, George, Walter, Gordon (Peter), Hector and sisters, Blanche and Helen.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home, Sydney Mines with interment at St. Peter’s Presbyterian Cemetery, Neil’s Harbour, at a later date. Memories and condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.fillmoreandwhitman.com.
Thank you to the staff of the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital for Alymer’s excellent care. A heartfelt thank you is also extended to the owners and staff of Heritage House, Port Hood. Port Hood truly did become his second home.
