It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Beatrice Eliza Evans of Sydney Mines. Beatrice passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 1, 2010 in the Northside Community Guest Home, North Sydney. Born November 20, 1918 in Sydney Mines, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Ann (Brewer) Roper.
In Beatrice’s early years she enjoyed being a stay at home Mom and later loved being a grandmother and great grandmother. She was the joy and comfort of her family and loved taking care of everyone. She was our strength and our security through life’s challenges. Beatrice was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary in Sydney Mines for over 40 years and enjoyed her club meetings. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, Bingo, reading, watching hockey and baseball games, as well as listening to country music. She had a great sense of humor and was a joy to be around.
She will be sadly missed by daughters; Sharon Snow, Sydney Mines; Carol (Jerry) Arsenault, Alder Point; Nancy (Ian) MacInnis, Sydney Mines; Mary Lee (Doug) Walsh, Sydney Mines; Pamela (James Bishop) MacDonald, Baddeck; sons, David (Sharon), South Haven; Brian (Anne Marie), Sydney Mines; Murray (Creyton), Sydney Mines; Dale (Joellen), Alberta; sister, Lillian Plumb; brothers, Edward and Harry, all from Ontario; 25 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband William “Bill”; daughter, Linda; son, Robert in infancy; sister, Lila; brothers, Ronald, George and Elmer.
Visitation will be held 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Friday, December 3, 2010 in Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 3 in Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines, Rev. Peter Rafuse will officiate. Interment in Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Sydney Mines. A reception will follow the committal service in the church hall.
