It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Bernice passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney on October 8th surrounded by her loving family. She was born in North Sydney and grew up in Florence, Nova Scotia as the daughter of the late Kenneth and Phyllis (Morrison) Dunlop. Besides her parents, Bernice was predeceased by her brother, William of Riverview, NB.
Bernice will be sadly and lovingly missed by her best friend and husband, Buddy, of 47 years, her son Bryan of Ottawa, Leanne (Steven) Shepherd of Frenchvale, her precious granddaughter Everlee, her sister Dale (Wayne) MacDougall of Amherst sister-in-law Carolyn Dunlop and nephews Stephen, Darren and David.
In her early years, she was employed by Squires Limited in North Sydney, but later moved to Brantford, ON where she worked as a telephone operator for Bell Canada. Bernice's whole world revolved around her family and her furry companion Charlie. She enjoyed hanging out with Buddy, the love of her life. They were always together, like "two peas in a pod." She enjoyed going for walks, car rides, watching CNN and she loved to dance. She received many trophies for her dancing skills. Bernice will always be remembered for her kind and caring ways and her fondness to tease. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 17 at 2pm at St. James Presbyterian Church in Big Bras d'Or with Rev. Peter MacDonald officiating. Interment to follow in the parish Cemetery.
