It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we the family of Catherine MacLean of 8 Shore Rd., Florence, announce her passing. Mom passed away Thursday, Feb.23, 2006 at home surrounded by her family.
Mom enjoyed staying at home and lived for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She looked forward to every visit we made. She loved Sunday suppers which was long called "Nanny's Day". She lovingly raised nine children and a grand-daughter.
Surviving are her daughters; Donna Smith, Sydney Mines, Beryl ( Donnie Forrest ), Mill Creek, Louvine Miller ( Allan Bond ), Florence, Darlene LeBlanc ( Billy MacLennan ), Millville, Sherry ( Joey Thurbide ), Florence; grand-daughter; B.J. ( Carter Young ), North Sydney, sons; Max ( Sharon ), Ontario, Billy, Ontario, Allie, Balls Creek, Kenny ( Cathy Tobin ), Florence. She is also survived by two half sisters; Audrey Mulholland, Sydney Mines, Hugh Anne ( Dave ) Reshore, Florence, two half brothers; Collin MacDonald, Sydney Mines, Jack ( Ann Marie ), Ontario; 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren as well as many special nieces, nephews and friends. ( Wanda, she loved your phone calls ).
Catherine was predeceased by sister; May Ivey, brother; Mick MacDonald, step-mother; Ruth MacDonald, parents; Margaret and Hugh MacDonald, son-in-law; Duke Smith and the father of her children, Ken MacLean.
Cremation has taken place and a funeral service was held on Saturday, Feb.25, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. in the Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home Chapel with Daniel " Danny " MacLennan officiating. Burial took place at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Sydney Mines and afterwards a memorial reception was held at Grace Fellowship Church, Meadow Brook Drive, Sydney Mines.
We would like to thank the doctors and staff at Northside General Hospital. Thank you to all of our own family from one another for making her final wishes come true. She taught us to love and to stick together. Special thanks from all of the family to daughters Louvine and Sherry who unconditionally gave of themselves when there wasn't anymore to give. We love you and God bless.

To all who helped in her care; the home care staff ( she enjoyed your visits the most ), VON, especially Pauline Jobes, the staff of 5th and 4th floor and kitchen at the Northside General Hospital, Dr. Andrew Wawer, Dr. Elwood MacMullin and Dr. Peter Poulous, the ambulance attendants and the at home Pallative Care staff. Thanks to the staff of Fillmore & Whitman, especially, Andre LeBlanc for all your help. Your compassion always came first.
To Daniel MacLennan, Director of Cape Breton Bible Camp, who so lovingly officiated the service. You were more than just a friend to all of us. Your care and compassion, especially to mom, was such a blessing.
Again to Danny, Debbie Cann and Winston MacEachern, for your special music. To Gary Nicholson for playing the piano. What a blessing.
To grand-daughter, Kelli Bishop for the true words about a special Nanny; to Linda Barry for reading a poem and to the pallbearers, Donnie Forrest, Joey Thurbide, Billy MacLennan and Carter Young.
To Grace Fellowship Church, especially, Marilyn Whyte for organizing the lunch and to everyone who helped her. To those who sent food, cards, flowers, visited at the hospital and at the house, made phone calls and for all the hugs because you all knew how special she was. To all who came home from away. Everyone that attended the service and made donations.
