It is with overwhelming sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our wonderful mother, aunt, grandmother and friend Deborah Ann Whitty (Brown) on Friday, September 4, 2020 at the age of 64 following a very courageous battle with cancer. Debbie was born and raised in Sydney Mines. She was the daughter of the late James and Jessie (Boyce) Brown. Debbie was always the caregiver. She took care of her mom, sister and husband. That led to looking after many great ladies whom she loved and considered family. Debbie was a very kind, wonderful lady with a great sense of humour. Her quick wit will not be forgotten. Our lives will never be the same and she will be forever missed. Besides her parents, Debbie is predeceased by her husband, Jerry, and her only sister, Hilda Jackman. She is survived by sons, Terry (Sydney Mines) and Jamie (Cheryl) Sydney Mines; her niece whom she considered a daughter, Michelle (Pat) Jackman North Sydney; nephew, Jimmy Fort McMurray; grandchildren, Patrick, Connor, Lillian and Linea, as well as special daughter, Angie. A service will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating. The service will be livestreamed and may be attended virtually by visiting Fillmore & Whitman’s Facebook page. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.fillmoreandwhitman.com Debbie’s family would like to thank the many doctor’s and nurses at the CB Regional Cancer Center, Northside General Hospital 4W, VON and palliative care who showed great compassion and kindness. “If love alone could have kept you here, you would have lived forever.”

I am sorry to learn of Debbie's passing. Although I rarely saw Debbie as I left Sydney Mines when she was only two, I am her first cousin. Her dad and my mom were brother and sister. My deepest condolences to the family. May your fondest memories of her give you peace.
