Helen Cavell Shaw

It’s with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Helen Cavell Shaw age 87 on Friday January 7, 2022. Born March 18, 1934, the daughter of the late Roy and Dorothy (Greenwell) Ferguson of Florence, NS.

Helen was survived her loving husband of 67 years James Shaw, survived also by her sons, Douglas (Paula) Calgary, Wilfred, Sydney Mines, David (Lillian) Florence, Conrad (Norma) Fort McMurray, daughters, Caroline (Ted Thorburn) McAdam NB, Judy (Kirk Cantwell) Bras’d Or, Marlene (Albert Jesty), Donna (Wayne Tobin), Doreen (David Lewis) all of Sydney Mines.

19 Grandchildren, Patrick (Allie), Shawn, Sarah (Chris), Mark (Yohanny), Murray (Paige), Matthew (Beth), Michael, Mitchell, Aaron, Albert, Suzanne (Steven), James (Lindsey), Candace (Karl), Andrew (Jennifer), Megan, Victoria (Ryan), Vanessa (Matthew), Stephanie and Melissa as well as 8 Great Grandchildren, Madison, Kaleb, Aylissa, Logan, Jaxson, Isabelle, Nicole and Adalyn.

She is also survived by her brothers, Earl, Kenny, David, Archie and George and sisters Florence and Colleen.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Wilfred, Robert, John and Jimmy and sisters Shirley, Margie, Annie Ruth, Betty Jean and Jenny.

Helen was a dedicated worker employed with National Sea Products Ltd. for 35 years.

Helen’s great joy was her family, she loved to host them at her home each and every week. Helen was a great baker and always supplied some great treats for everyone. She always had a spot in her heart for her beloved Florence where she grew up.

The Family would like to thank Dr. Joan Salah for her great care and compassion for Mom.
