Born on December 9, 1927 in Cape North to the late Mary Grace and Roderick Sinclair MacLeod. Besides her parents she is predeceased by her husband Arthur Stanley, daughters Norma Lorraine and Mary Catherine, daughter-in-law Doris as well as brothers John Angus, Melvin, Lloyd, Sinky, Billy, Dennis, sister Mary and an infant sister Marie and twin baby brothers Collie & Roderick. Dit is survived by son Gordon, daughters Gloria (Jack), Shirley, Jean, Joan (Ron), Arthena (Brian), Susan and Ruby (Eren), son-in-law Brian as well as nineteen grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter, one sister Myrtle and brothers Roy (Carrie) and Gordon (Ruby) and sisters-in-law Margaret and Ruby. Dit raised a family of ten while working from home as self trained seamstress, sewing instructor and telephone switchboard operator in Neil’s Harbour. Once her children were grown, she downsized her recipes and went to cook at Buchanan Memorial Hospital where she remained for many years. Upon retirement, she travelled and worked as a day care instructor and cook at senior’s homes while living with family in the US, western Canada, PEI and Nova Scotia. Following her second retirement she returned home to Nova Scotia where she was an active part of her family’s lives. Mom lived her last two years with her second family, the wonderful staff and residents of Highland Manor in Neil’s Harbour. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service and interment will be announced at a later time. Stories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.fillmoreandwhitman.com. If desired, donations in Dit’s memory may be made to the Highland Manor, Neil’s Harbour

The family would like to thank Dr. Murray and the staff at Buchanan Memorial Hospital and the Highland Manor for the wonderful care given to Dit.

With loving gratitude and respect, we will remember you always for your strength and determination, your generosity, your entertaining stories and your sharp wit and wry sense of humour.
