Mary Catherine Brewer

October 3, 1923May 5, 2020

It is with profound sadness the family of Mary (Molly) Catherine Brewer wish to announce her peaceful passing on May 5, 2020 at 10:20am, in her 97th year. Born in Neil’s Harbour, Mary lived in Ingonish Beach, with her husband James Brewer before he passed in 1960. In Dec 1942, he shipped off to war leaving her expecting their first child not knowing if he would return. Life wasn't always easy.

She is survived by daughters, Alexis Mossman (Vern), Carmen Mobbs (Ferguson), Ruth- Ann Muldoon (Terry), 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren many neices and nephews, sisters , Theresa Robinson, Donna Murphy (Hector). She was the daughter late George Ed and Margaret McGean of Ingonish Centre.

She was predeceased by her husband Jim, Son Dennis, daughter Virginia Hines (Brewer) grandsons Stephen Donovan, Shane Mobbs, brothers, Amos McGean, Leo, Simon, Jack and Bill, and sisters, Adeline Cousins, Hattie Morrison.

She was a member of St Peters Catholic Church in Ingonish. Through many ups and downs she fought her way through trouble and strife with unshakable faith in God; always with prayer beads in her hands. Mom loved to give to others, making uncountable pairs of slippers, dish cloths & bread, all made with great love to be given to others who helped her in some way. She was loved by everyone. There are no words to thank the staff members at Highland Manor Nursing Home. They are angels in disguise. Due to COVID 19, a funeral mass will take place at a later date. Cremation is in the care of Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Memories and condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.fillmoreandwhitman.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peters Catholic Church, Ingonish Beach or to the Highland Manor, Neils Harbour, Nova Scotia.

>>> We love and miss you so much, Mom.

Dear Lexi, Carmen, Ruth-Ann & families

Aunt Molly will be missed by so many. Just reading the memories posted gives one only a peak at how she touched people. She was always so happy to see you and made you feel so welcomed. She reminded me of Dad. They had the same humor and positive attitude. She brought me comfort, especially after he passed. It is never easy to say good bye to someone, especially your mother and it doesn't matter how old your are. Take care. You are left with wonderful memories.

Mary(Molly to me) was a wonderful lady who I first met when she started to get meals on wheels. I would bring her meal and I would leave with more cookies, bread , or biscuits than I brought. She was a good friend, and I will miss her.

Kathleen, Donna and family. My heart is breaking for you as I know how much Molly meant to you. She was one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met and I am so glad I got to spend time with her when I visited Cape Breton. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel. Rest in Peace Molly. Dear Molly was like a second mother to us youngsters and we all loved her dearly; despite many complicated health issues she remained faith filled and always made you feel "special";she was a very special God mother to my younger sister Mel who adored Molly. May the good memories help sustain at what is never easy saying good bye to ones mother even at such an age of 97...our love to you all Alexis, Carmen and Ruth Ann - Molly did a great job on you all as a single parent as your Dad died so young; Keep strong/keep safe...blessings to you - Judy (Donovan Whitty) and Doug W. (formerly Ingonish, now PEI) xo

Dear Lexie, Carmen, and Ruth-Anne,
I am so sorry to hear of Aunt Molly’s passing. I have so many wonderful memories of visiting with her. I am so happy that my children were able to know her and that she met Rose. She was always our last stop for a visit before heading home to L’Ardoise. Aunt Molly always had some treat for us for the road. One time it was a kitten, Smokey. She was such a strong and determined lady. You were so lucky to have her as your mother.
Love Karen
