Born in Sydney Mines, on March 16, 1926, Millie was the daughter of the late John and Mary (McIlwain) Laidlaw. Millie grew up and lived her entire life on Beech Street. After finishing school she worked at Woolworths on Main Street until her retirement. She was very involved with many organizations throughout her life - St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, AMS Atlantic Missionary Society, Rebekah Lodge and Harbourview Ladies Auxiliary. Among her many interests were bus trips throughout Canada and the Eastern U.S., knitting and writing to her penpals.
Besides her parents, Millie was predeceased by sisters Freda Ferguson, Bertha Reid and Mary MacKenzie, and brothers-in-law Wilfred Ferguson, Leslie Reid and George MacKenzie.
Millie is survived by her four nephews – Brian, Wayne and Norman Ferguson and David MacKenzie.
A special thank you to the staff at Spanish Bay for their compassion and kindness over the years and to her dear friend Kathy Audoux for her weekly visits which Millie truly enjoyed.
A funeral service will be held on Monday at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 3 Queen Street, Sydney Mines at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Covid 19 restrictions will be followed with the wearing of masks, social distancing and limited seating (50) in the church. The service will be livestreamed via Fillmore & Whitman’s Facebook Page for those unable to attend in person. Burial will take place in the spring at Brookside Cemetery.
