With deep sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of our dear Mom, Agnes Whalen at Harbourstone Enhanced Care with her family by her side. Mom was lovingly cared for by the amazing staff on Levatte’s Lane where she resided for the past 3.5 years.
Mom was the daughter of the late John and Beatrice McPherson.
Mom was a loyal member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 12 Ladies Auxiliary where she held various offices in her 54 years of service. Mom could always be called upon for any task with the Auxiliary, whether it be to bake a pan of squares, a plate of sandwiches or to work in the kitchen when needed. Mom loved to volunteer her services especially with the annual Poppy Campaign. Mom received many awards in recognition of her dedicated service to the legion. The award she was most proud of was the Meritorious Service Award. Mom made many life-long friends with her Sisters in the Auxiliary which included her legion buddy, Kay MacLellan.
Mom loved to have fun and was always ready to do anything that involved the Legion. Most of all, she loved to prepare for outings with the Cape Breton Veteran’s Comfort Fund, a Committee which she held close to her heart.
Mom had a love for bowling and darts and participated in many tournaments and leagues over the years. She brought home a few trophies in her day.
Mom was also involved in Club 55 Rhythm Band playing the washboard which brought her much joy.
Mom was blessed with a keen sense of humor and quick wit and no matter what was said, she always had a quick comeback. This she carried through to the end. She made many a people smile and chuckle.
Mom leaves behind her five children, Kevin, his wife Denise and their three boys; Kyle, Kameron and Kullen. Madonna, her husband Leonard and their son, Kevin (Bryan Mombourquette); Keith, his wife Franca; Karen, her husband, Robert and their two children, Victoria (Tori) (Kyle Drysdale) and Ryan (Kendall); and Robert, his wife Susan and their two children, Riley (Kyla Harris) and Breanna.
