

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Albert (Golydada) Julian, Sr. on March 15, 2025 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney NS. Born in Bayfield, NS, he was the son of Dr. Margaret Johnson, his step-father, John T. Johnson, and the biological son of Ernest Leslie Stover (d. 1953). He was the husband of the late Mary Rose Julian (nee Denny), who predeceased him in January 2023. He was a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great great-grandfather and Patriarch to many. He was also a great friend of so many people too numerous to list here.
Known as Golydada, he is survived by his children, Deborah, Katani, Albert (Marlene Paul), April, Noel R., Marilyn, Janet (Noel “Bo” Denny) Peck, Jane Peck, Maria Paul, Stephanie (Greg) Johnson, and Bradley Stevens; those he helped raise, Elaine “Akkaya” Denny, Olivia Julian, John Albert Poulette, Tahni Julian, and Desiree Marshall (Membertou); 36 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren,and a great-great grandson.
He is also survived by his siblings, Lottie Mae Johnson, Gerald Johnson, Gerard Johnson, Patricia Dennis, Carol Marshall (Potlotek), Thomas Johnson, and Derek Johnson. He is also survived by his brother Carl “Stubby” Marble from Shubenacadie. He will be greatly missed by his many godchildren, nieces and nephews, and his many friends.
Golydada was predeceased by siblings, Arthur, Ralph, Joan, Lynda, Elizabeth and Mary; and Stover siblings Viola, Mildred, Rose, Shirley, Elva, Lois, Ella, and Ernest Jr. (Buddy), in Lambert Lake, Maine; his siblings Rosemarie Nevin, Charlie Marble and Corrine Marble, in Shubenacadie; his grandsons, Lyndon Derek Julian, Gabriel Francis Peck, and great-granddaughter, Chaya Joy Peck.
Golydada was well known for his incredible humour, vast knowledge, his love of family, his love of being Mi’kmaw, his participation in Mi’kmaw politics, his brilliant advice, and his dedication to the preservation of the Mi’kmaw language. He was a wonderful teacher and friend to many. Golydada was Eskasoni Band Manager for more than 25 years, and he brought Eskasoni’s first community tv Channel and tv Bingo, affectionately known as “Golivision”. He was the translator of Paul McCartney’s song “Blackbird”, which went viral on YouTube with over 1.9 million views.
The family is eternally grateful for the excellent care and attention given to Golydada by Jessica Nicholas, CCA, Dr. Rob Todd, and Dr. Brendan McCarville.
Visitation will take place at the Gabriel Centre, Eskasoni, on March 22, 2025 starting at 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025 at 10:30 am at Holy Family Church in Eskasoni, with Fr. Antolin Asor officiating. Interment to follow in parish cemetery.
