It is with great sadness that the family of Alice Bernadette Toussaint 56, announce her passing at the Palliative Care at the C.B.Reg. Hospital on Mon., Nov.14, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Whitney Pier, she was the daughter of the late Lucas and Irene (Talbot) Toussaint.
Alice’s greatest accomplishment and joy in her life is her son Justin Harrison Toussaint who will continue to keep her memory alive.
Alice was a loving mother, sister, aunt, colleague and friend. She cherished the times spent with her son, family and friends.
Alice graduated from Holy Angels High School and after caring for her own father, left Whitney Pier to attend Dalhousie University, graduating with her Social Work Degree. Alice worked for the CBRM with the Employment Resource Centre prior to being employed for the last 17 years with the Department of Community Services, Sydney District Office. Alice was involved with in numerous community organizations as a volunteer; Board Member and friend. Alice was on the African N.S. Labour Advisory Committee Board of Directors as well as the local C.B. Black Employment Partnership Committee (CBBEPC) Board of Directors.
Leaving to mourn is her son Justin, numerous nieces and nephews, special friends Anne Mombourquette, Karen Green (Gary) and special girl Kellan; friend in life and death, Sue husband Tracy); by sisters Henrietta Coward, Halifax; Marlene (Alvin), Florida; Donna, Sydney; Denise, Toronto; brothers William (Heather), PEI; Frederick (Susan) and Travis (Sylvia), both of Halifax.
Predeceased by brothers Lucas Jr., Kevin, James, sisters Helen, Doris Halfkenny (Seale), Florence ‘Sally’ Robinson and Julianna ‘Judy’ Broens.
Visitation Fri. from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass celebrated on Sat.at 10 am at Sacred Heart Church, Rev. Anthony O’Connor officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery. Reception at Melenick Hall, Whitney Pier.
