

Northside East Bay
Allan Gillis 96, of Northside East Bay, formerly of Gillis Lake, passed away November 20, 2010 in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Gillis Lake he was a son of the late John and Mary (MacIssac) Gillis. He was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Parish, East Bay. Allan enjoyed playing cards and many other recreational activities at Harbourstone. Throughout his life Allan was a very physically active person. He worked at Canadian Liquid Air for many years. He was very dedicated to his family and took great pride in caring for his property. He is survived by daughters, Betty (Steve) MacNeil, East Bay; Pat (Vern) MacAdam, Lower Sackville; Alana, Dartmouth; Carmel (Archie), Halifax; Sheila (Eric), Favaro, Sydney River; Pauline, East Bay; Florence (Kevin) Riley, Antigonish; Joanne (Greg) Farrell, Halifax; sons, Ed (Jenny), Lower Sackville; Allan “Al” (Donna), Bedford; 23 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 1 sister in law, Liz and many nieces and nephews. Allan was the last surviving member of his family. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Catherine “Kay”(MacDonald); sisters, Mary Margaret, Kit, Mary, and Jessie in infancy; brothers, Jim A, Rannie, Gussie, Johnny, Jimmy and Paul.
The family would like to thank the staff of Fisherman’s Cove at Harbourstone Enhanced Care for taking such great care of our father for the past 6 years.
Visitation will be 2- 9 p.m., Monday, November 22 in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 23 at St Mary’s Church, East Bay, Father Frank Abbass will officiate, interment in parish cemetery.
