Louisbourg
It is with broken hearts that we the family regret to announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, Patsy on July 9th, 2019 at home in Louisbourg.
Born in West Louisbourg (Old Town) on February 2nd, 1945, she was the daughter of the late William ‘Bill’ and Winnifred (Connington) Baldwin, both of Old Town.
Patsy, or Nanny Patsy as known by many, graduated from Holy Angels High School and continued her education in business college. She started her working career at St. Rita’s Hospital. Patsy took a time out from work to raise her four children and then resumed work at the Louisbourg Post Office. Patsy then worked as receptionist at the Louisbourg Medical Clinic from its opening until her retirement and the clinics closing in 2014. She often went well beyond her job duties to accommodate patients with their medical needs and additional bookings.
Patsy was a pillar in her community. She spent her entire life volunteering for organizations in and around Louisbourg. She had a strong Christian faith, playing an active role for many years in the Stella Maris C.W.L. and church functions. Mom also was a member of the Louisbourg Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for many years, making tea and coffee dispensers at the annual Crab Festival, her little job. Mom gained a lot of her ability to interact with people from the Girl Guide movement where she joined girl guides as a child and stayed involved for over 50 years as leader and commissioner of the organization.
Besides interacting and caring for others wellbeing, Patsy enjoyed spending time riding on the Goldwing with Aubrey, but since the Old Town Trail was built, they thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the red chairs to enjoy the view.
Patsy’s greatest love and passion was spending time with her children and grandchildren. A common sight the past 22 years would be Nanny Patsy with one of her granddaughters planting flowers in front of the church or in her yard.
Patsy will be greatly missed by her loving husband Aubrey, who would have been married 50 years on July 26th, son Jason (Tanya), daughters Jocelyn (Matthew), Janice and Joanne; grandchildren Justin (Sarah), Katie, Jonathan, Ireland, Julianna and Jayne; great grandchildren Allie, Emily, Corey and Chloe. Patsy is also survived by sisters Mary (Ralph), Louisbourg; Betty, Sydney; Joanie (Kevin), Sydney; Chris (Stewart), Springhill; brothers Billy (Alfredine), Sydney; Charlie, Dartmouth and Danny (Patsy), Main a Dieu. She is also survived by sister-in-law Ruth (John), British Columbia, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Patsy will also be missed by two of her lifelong friends Elaine MacPherson and Margie Parsons.
Visitation will take place Sunday, July 14th at Stella Maris Church in Louisbourg from 2-4 & 6- 8 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 15th at 11 am in Stella Maris Church, Louisbourg with Father Evo Di Pierro officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Reception to follow in parish hall.
