We regret to announce the peaceful passing of our Mom, Barbara Donelda MacDougall, 78 of Sydney on Sunday, July 29, 2012, with her loving family by her side. Mom was born in Scotch Lake, Cape Breton on Dec 4, 1933 and was the daughter of the late James and Annie Mae (Piero) MacLellan. While battling various cancers over a 35 year period, mom was still active as a member of the Ladies Auxillary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 12 Sydney, and was also able to enjoy the outdoors with her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Anne MacDougall, Charmaine (Alex) Jones, Debbie (Ian) Smith, and grandchildren. Jason, Jillian and Stefanie Peters, Kelly (Michael) Tomiczek and Michael Jones, Rachael and Elizabeth Smith and great-grandson Carsen Tomiczek.
She is also survived by her brother, Angus MacLellan and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was predeceased by her husband James in 1968; brothers, Alvin and Leo; sisters, Catherine MacDonald, Eliza Roston, and Elizabeth Beaton.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will take place at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Thursday, August 2 at 3:00 p.m. with Fr. A. Maroun officiating with a reception to follow.
At this time we would like to thank Dr. Ritter and Dr. Cameron for their kindness, understanding and care for our Mom. To Peggy MacDonald (patient advocate) for her guidance and work on our behalf. To all the staff in the An Cala palliative care unit, thank you so much. Also to the staff of Seaview Manor where she resided for the past six years and the staff of Harbourstone for your care and kindness over the past 2 months. No flowers please. Donations in Mom’s memory may be made to that An Cala Palliative Care Unit of CBRH.
