It is with broken hearts and deep sorrow that we, the family, announce the passing of Bernard Russell Carew, in his 70th year on Monday, March 14, 2016.
Bernie was the son of the Late Lena (Anderson) and Alfred Carew. He was born and raised in Whitney Pier, and remained there through his life. He was a member of Saint Alban's Anglican Church.
Bernie worked in the construction industry for many years until his heart started causing him serious problems. He was a man who liked to be busy, and fishing and camping were some of his great loves.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Rena (Lewis), daughters Sharon (Marc), Maureen (Lee), Lena (Avery), Jane (Jamie), Barbara (Marianne) and Carmie, and his grandchildren Russell, Alicia, Jordan, Carissa and Ashlyn.
Bernie is also survived by his sisters Joan (Steve) MacKenzie- New Brunswick, Elaine (Martin) Matheson - Sydney, brothers George (Judy) and Kevin (Sue) - both of Sydney. Brothers-in-law Donald (Edie), Arthur, Earl, Leo (Marie) - all of Sydney, and Sandy (Virginia) - North Sydney, and sisters-in-law Denise, Debbie and Donna - all of Sydney, and Ethel - Glace Bay.
He was predeceased by his brothers Louis and Gerald and sister Shirley, his half-sisters Lil Gill, Theresa Aucoin, Ella Rowe, Geraldine Gill, Catherine Ferguson, Emma, Amanda, and Eileen; half-brothers Harry, Patrick, Wally and Ned; brothers-in-law Charlie and Tom, and sister-in-law Anna Mae.
A memorial service will take place at 2 pm on Thursday, March 17 at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel, Archdeacon Brenda Drake officiating with a reception to follow.
The family would like to thank the Palliative Care staff for their kindness and compassion.
